Summer Slushies, Margaritas and More!

With summer approaching, we decided to launch new products that you can enjoy without the unnecessary sugars and artificial sweeteners. The AminoHydrate line consists of coconut water for intra/post workout hydration, fuel, and recovery. This gluten free formula stimulates muscle protein synthesis, reduces protein breakdown and preserves muscle glycogen stores. The Prohydrate is a crisp & clean protein + hydration formula containing 10g whey isolate protein, 73 calories and 6g carbohydrates. Formulated from all natural ingredients with no chalky aftertaste. Finally, the Protein+ Coffee and Protein+ Matcha are delicious  blends of 16g of our nonGMO, SOY free whey isolate that are perfect for pre or post workout, mid day snacks or weight management.

NOW what to do with those WATERMELON RINDS???

  1. Shred them, add them to your favorite coleslaw recipe- I know, you’re thinking… no way but it’s amazing, refreshing and different.
  2.  Shave or slice off the green part. Cube up the white flesh and add to your favorite salsa recipe. The garlic, jalapeno’s and salt in your salsa recipe will enhance the flavor of the watermelon flesh, add a little sweetness and crunch to it too.

Make pickled rinds. They’re an unexpected treat- here’s the recipe from Huffington Post:

WATERMELON RIND PICKLES

Fills 3 8-ounce jars

  • Rind from 1 pound of watermelon
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 cup cider vinegar (white wine vinegar will also work in a pinch)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons pickling spice

Scoop out the flesh from the watermelon and reserve for eating. Peel the green skin off the watermelon rind with a sharp vegetable peeler.

Cut white rind into spears that are about 1/2” wide and 2” long.

Bring a medium saucepan full of water to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon salt. Boil the watermelon rinds for about 4 minutes, until they just begin to turn translucent and become soft when stabbed with a fork. Drain and let cool for handling.

In a medium saucepan (it can be the same one you used for the watermelon), combine the vinegar, sugar, water and pickling spices. Bring to a boil, until the sugar has dissolved.

Place the cooled rinds in their pickling jars, tightly packed. Carefully pour the pickling liquid into each jar, until the liquid nearly reaches the top. Screw the top on your jars and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks. Your pickles can be eaten after just a few hours.

We hope that you enjoy these recipes as much as we do! There is always time to sit back, relax, and have a cold, summer drink. Why not add a little protein or amino acids to it too?
